SALSA Members Strengthen Their Food Defences with The National Food Crime Unit

In May, SALSA collaborated with the National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) to host ‘Strengthen Your Food Fraud Defences’. This interactive desktop exercise enabled SALSA members to explore the realities of food fraud and learn how to prevent, detect and respond to it.

We’re delighted to share that the event received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with 100% of participants reporting improved knowledge of food fraud prevention, and all agreeing that they now feel more confident in dealing with a food fraud incident.

The session challenged delegates to think critically about vulnerabilities and response strategies while giving them the rare opportunity to collaborate with peers from across the food industry.

“It was a realistic and engaging exercise – very thought-provoking.”

“A great way of encouraging debate and hearing different opinions from across the food industry.”

“Really useful to get into each stage of a food fraud incident and explore all aspects.”

Participants especially valued the interactive format, open discussion, and real-world relevance. The session created a space for sharing insights, building understanding and strengthening practical response skills.

“It was packed full of helpful information!”

“Properly interactive – I learnt so much from other people's experiences.”

“It made me think more widely and promoted thinking of risk from different angles.”

A Valuable Collaboration

Working alongside the NFCU, SALSA provides meaningful support to members in tackling food crime, ensuring that even the smallest producers are equipped with the knowledge and tools to protect their businesses and supply chains.

Can You Help?

We would like to run the same event in November to support our members in the North of the UK. We are looking for a venue in the Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and York areas. If you could provide a venue, please email us – we will provide lunch!
