SALSA opens new doors for PK Trading

Established 20 years, PK Trading is a dry-store ingredients supplier operating out of their West London base, just south of Heathrow Airport.   PK Trading packs and supplies a wide range of dried herbs, spice, pulses, seeds and dried fruits for the UK’s catering and retail market.  The Company re-pack to specific requirements and deliver quickly and dependably to a wide range of customers including caterers, airlines, cruise lines, railway networks, boutique hotels and major food manufacturers.  Among their many prestigious customers they feel privileged to supply Gate Gourmet, Do & Co, Black Lemon catering.

The businesses strategy was for tailored growth, built on strong, established foundations.  An essential pillar for the business has always been excellent food safety standards.   ‘Early on, we’d noticed a growing trend among our customers for seeking third party certification to ensure the supply chain is robust,’ says Sukh Deol, Managing Director.  ‘SALSA was the natural next step in the evolution of our business… not only does it demonstrate we are a well-run business but it will also help open new doors which we would not be able to open otherwise,’ adds Sukh.

PK Trading currently employs 15 full-time staff and is seeing a trend towards [vegan and vegetarian food, gluten free products, consolidating suppliers as well multi temperature delivery vehicles].  The Company pride themselves on understanding their customers’ needs and recognise that in the fast moving world of food supply/preparation, you may need it in a hurry!  Alternatively, when time allows, they work with their client chefs to explore and develop new menus and presentations, which reflect brand values and importantly meet their budget.

PK Trading joined SALSA in September 2016, selecting the SALSA Package Deal Extra which entitled them to one day of SALSA mentoring, an invaluable resource offered by SALSA to ensure a member is on track for their upcoming audit.   ‘The Mentor helped guide us through the controls and requirements of the Standard.   He made the process painless and was an invaluable resource for us to lean on as and when needed’, comments Sukh.  The SALSA audit was conducted in early December 2016 and the Company quickly achieved certification and now proudly fly the SALSA flag.

With Approval securely under their belt, PK Trading feels confident to pitch for new business in the retail market and with national businesses.  ‘We’ve already had doors open for us as a result of our SALSA approval and are looking forward to seeing what the new year holds for us,’ says Sukh.
