SALSA and The British Game Alliance

The BGA have ensured that their members who are working towards SALSA Approval receive a day’s mentoring with a SALSA mentor prior to audit.

After hearing SALSA Scheme Development Manager, Bonnie Joplin, speak at an event arranged by the British Game Alliance Medstead Meats felt that SALSA Approval would give them a competitive edge within the industry.

Having been in the food manufacturing industry for over 40 years, Medstead Meats started their new game business last year. Collecting over 80% of wild game products locally for preparation and distribution within the home counties. Medstead Meats gained SALSA Approval this month and were one of the first businesses to do so via the British Game Alliance Partnership.

Medstead Meats utilised their day’s mentoring session to prepare for their audit. Working with a SALSA Mentor, they examined how to improve their systems and implement the SALSA Standard thereby effectively demonstrating their commitment to food safety and quality.  They found the session a huge help to the business.

“The road to becoming SALSA Approved was very informative and the help and advice along the way was clear and straightforward to follow. It’s always good to have a step back and look at things from other people’s point of view and with this in mind we are applying new systems which will streamline things in a much better way going forward. We look forward to the future and hopefully new business.”  Jan Sole, Medstead Meats

"We’re delighted to be working with SALSA and to support our members in gaining SALSA Approval. We very much hope that this collaboration will not only help to drive standards forward in the sector, but also open up new trading opportunities for the participating businesses." Tom Adams, Managing Director, British Game Alliance.
